spraying a fine mist of silicon on manes and tails can cut down grooming time and also hair loss .by faithfully sticking to your normal feeding routine, u can increase your horses digestive effeciency and nutrients by as much as 40%. for minor wounds especially in the pasturn/ fetlock areas , use a terry cloth wrist band , put meds on band and pull over onto the wound , it stays in place and keeps flies off of the wound . when applying hoof polish stand each freshly painted hoof on a paper plate until it dries , this helps elininate dust / dirt . make your own fly repellant by adding 1 tsp of powdered sulfer to 1/2 c of petrolum jelly , rub small amounts near or on ears , eyelids , chest, belly .washing halters , cinches, leadlines will be easier if you make a home made tack sack by taking a old bath towel , folding it in half, sew up the sides and either put in a zipper or draw stringon top, wash as normal . horses hearts are very sensitive indicators of pain , fever , disease. brownish yellow gums are signs of poisioning, general infection or disease of the kidneys blue gums are starving for oxygen due to shock or heart failure . winter rye, wheat, oates, rye grass, all make excellent winter grazing. it is benefical to feed wheat bran, alfafa pellets and other fiberous feeds to colicly horses. well hope u enjoy these tips :}:}

horse tips and ideas

hello all I thought it would b nice to share some tips I have on horses :} some may b old hat and other u may never hear of.. hope u enjoy just the same :} if you have a sick horse that wont drink? try 2 tble spoon of molasses in warm water . to stop horses from eating tree bark in their pasture nail burlap bags or rat wire around them. crushing a wart until it bleeds on ur horse may do some good, it causes antibodies to react to other warts. when ringworm appears .wear gloves and wash the horse in anti dandruff shampoo. a dry shampoo for rugs like woolite works well on horse blankets ...spray on , scrub in throughly, let dry, vacum out . ran out of hoof polish? for a temp fix .. cut a white onion in half rub the raw side into the hoof either the nite before or the morning of the show it will brighten the hoofs. horses who eat dirt are trying to ease the acidity in the stomachs . want to know one of the earliest signs of tetnus disease? its when a horses ears a forward eyes are bright and it has a grinning expression. ran out of absorbine linamint? try using one part alcohol with one part vinager. mix togther spray on body or legs..whatever is sore /stiff. cant afford wraps? use disposable diapers ..to stop hooves and walls and soles from cracking? use hand cream faithfully. adding a cup of cider vinager to horses water is an external fly repellant when they sweat. when cleaning and deoderizing a stall instead of lime try clean cat litter.a cleaned out container of rool on deoderizer can b refiled with fly repellant for ears and face . for a quick plastic glove use a sandwich bag to apply ointments turn inside out and close it up to reuse clean hands :}:} 2 /3 small catfish in a watering tank will keep it free of alge. a horses head is responsible for 90% of the horses balence, did u know the average horse can produce 15/20 pds of manure and urine... each.. a day ? a horse in order to completely digest a meal takes up to 3/4 days .well grded lightening poles near water troughs and hills help reduce the chances of horses getting struck .a wet warm teabag over the eye will help reduce swelling and irratation.to shine silver tack cut a lemon in half sprinkle salt on it and rub onto silver til it shines . for removing chestnuts put vasaline on them at nite by morning they will b soft enough to remove.using dental floss or wax thread is durable enough to repair tack inexpensively. nail hose strips or rubber above the gate latch this stops horse from getting out and helps it from rusting in wet weather . to deter buckety tipper from losing their feed, drill a hole in the bottom lip then nail to wall then put handle through an eye ring .. no more tippers ..hope u have enjoyed these horse tips good luck !!!
